new silkscreen: maple leaf

A couple years ago on a flight, I sat next to a lady who was returning from an East Coast foliage tour. She gave me this exact maple leaf.

Dress Delivery to Europe!

I was able to take some time off (and realllllly pushed myself to sew up until this trip) and headed to Europe! We traveled to Brussels, Antwerp, London and Amsterdam.
Naturally, I am on a constant search for inspiration!
And I was able to hand-deliver dresses and have some new styles tried on models :)
I rarely get to see my dresses being worn, just in photos and videos, so it's extra exciting!

Also, I was able to meet Barbara Decré!!!  You might remember this shoot!!

If you are in the Belgium area (and maybe she is keen to travel too) DO book a shoot with her!
She's absolutely sweet and positive, and most importantly, passionate about her work.

She also prepared a large book of her photography (of my dresses) and WOW, seeing amazing photography in print is the true test.  Get those prints printed!!!

I saw this drawing that Jennifer of sophie & lili's daughter drew
and was inspired to make it an actual dress.
It's the first scallop hem I have made!
And you know I can't resist stripes.

As I mentioned a few months ago here, in addition to running courtneycourtney, I work during the day for a children's fashion accessory company. I am constantly researching and am very passionate about children's fashion and lifestyle.

I found myself bookmarking so many great products and felt my customers might also like to view them.
What I didn't expect, was meeting some really great creative designers, and further, sharing our ideas and designs. A few of us creative ladies decided to choose a theme as a starting point, to create a piece of clothing inspired by this theme. We hope to do these weekly!

This week's theme is 'ruby red' and here is my dress!
Size 5T - 25" long.
Double flutter shoulders, skirt is a fleecy, sweater-y material.

I found this sweet corduroy jumper at 3ringcircus and wanted to see what outfit it could become!



I was inspired by the royal blue and touches of red, as well as the nostalgic, toddler feel of the jumper, to create a ruffle tunic that would peek through the center the same way the red pops from the blue.

weekend trip to the burgh

This past Labor Day weekend, me and a couple of friends returned to Pittsburgh!

I spent four years here, attending Carnegie Mellon University - the same school as Andy Warhol :D And of course visited the Andy Warhol museum as well. I actually read the text on the walls now!

where in the world is courtneycourtney - part 1

One of my journeys this Summer landed me in New Orleans, Louisiana.

This was my first visit to this enchanting city. It's soooo much more than just the craziness of Bourbon Street, jazz and crawfish (yummy!) You can really see the love and pride that its inhabitants have for the land, culture and history. It reminds you that life is about enjoying the company of others and never knowing quite where each day can take you.

Here are some fun friends I found! However, mosquitoes are NOT my friends.

I have always loved shopping in cute little stores, but what intrigued me about these Louisiana shops is the amount of layering that accumulates over the years. Pieces get picked up and their spaces get filled. It all works together. Items are not set apart by seasons or colors, they mix and easily find their place with what is already available. Aisles are lined with antique tables and buffets, frames and trinkets are placed on top of them, walls are spaced with hanging signs, and scarves and even more trinkets are hung from ceilings above. A lot of repurposing older items yet making sure the original purpose and function remains visible.

I did get a chance to spend some time with beautiful little courtneycourtney fans and their fantastic moms. It always amazes and inspires me to see how each child further individualizes each dress. And, nothing like seeing my dresses in action! Will share more inspiration, findings and photos soon!!
